Call for Presenters
District 7’s 2012 Spring Conference, “Communicate Oregon” will be held Saturday, May 5th at The Oregon Convention Center.
APPLY TODAY!
Applications are due by March 12th.
THE CONFERENCE THEME: “Communication in the 21st Century!”
Instead of traditional breakout sessions, this conference will feature plenary sessions—general sessions with no concurrent sessions—in the morning and afternoon, comprised of a mixture of two types of presentations, all delivered on the main stage, one after the other.
You topic should be exciting, impressive, motivational, and thematically tied to our “Communication in the 21st Century” theme or otherwise related to Toastmasters.
For example: “Effective use of Social Media to Generate Club Visitors” or “Introverts—The 21st Century Leaders” or “Resume Infographics”….you get the point. This isn’t your bosses boring project status presentation!
You can deliver one of two types of presentation so long as they adhere to the conference theme. The presentation types are:
COMM Talks
• COMM (Creative, Original, Memorable, Motivating) is modeled after the TED Talks
• Timeframe is 14-16 minutes. (Please note, COMM talks may be up to but not beyond 16 minutes)
• You have the option of using AV tools or not. Though it is recommended that either Powerpoint or Prezi is utilized for more impact
PechaKucha 20×20
• PechaKucha (pronounced PeCHAK-cha) is based on a presentation format that is concise and with a rapid pace
• Timeframe is exactly 6 minutes 40 seconds
• You must use a set of 20 slides with each slide automatically advancing every 20 seconds. (Hence the 20×20 format)
• You speak as your slides are projected onto the screen(s) behind you or above the stage
• This is definitely the most challenging and not for the weak. But when performed flawlessly it is the most impressive of them all!
Applying and Auditioning
Due to time restrictions on the schedule and to avoid repeating topics, presenters will need to audition to be slotted into the presentation lineup. Join the fun and share your knowledge, APPLY TODAY! Remember applications are due by March 12th.
There are two ways to audition: In-Person and via Video
In-Person auditions will be held on March 17th following the networking event at Frog Pond Church in Wilsonville, Oregon. The audition should be 3-5 minutes in length and be a small portion of the actual presentation.
Video auditions will be submitted with a special free service for sharing large files called Dropbox. Once you have submitted your application, a link to Dropbox will be provided.
Video submissions are due no later than March 16th. The video audition should be 2-3 minutes in length and be a small portion of the actual presentation.
All those auditioning, whether in person or via video, will be notified by March 24th of the committees decision.
Note: TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design.
